A Fresh Step Towards Responsible Digital Storytelling

The UAE has introduced a new national programme aimed at helping influencers and family-focused content creators produce meaningful online content that encourages positive values and healthier digital habits.

The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Family in collaboration with the New Media Academy, is designed to equip creators with professional media skills while ensuring their content promotes family wellbeing, social responsibility and community engagement. Rather than focusing solely on popularity or follower counts, the programme encourages participants to create content that can make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

A Digital Vision Rooted in Family Values

Officials behind the initiative believe that social media has become one of the strongest influences on modern family life. As millions of people consume digital content every day, the UAE wants to ensure creators are using these platforms to inspire positive behaviour instead of contributing to harmful online trends.

Speaking during the launch, Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, the UAE’s Minister of Family, said strong families remain the foundation of a strong nation. She explained that investing in responsible content creators is another way of investing in society’s future, especially as technology continues to shape everyday life.

The programme reflects the country’s broader strategy of supporting families while adapting to a rapidly changing digital landscape.

More Than Just Influencer Training

Unlike many influencer courses that concentrate on branding, monetisation and audience growth, this programme has a much wider purpose.

Participants will receive professional training in storytelling, scriptwriting, photography, video production, editing, digital publishing and audience engagement. Alongside these practical skills, they will also study topics including positive parenting, family relationships, national identity and ethical communication.

Organisers believe this balanced approach will help creators produce engaging content that also carries educational and social value.

Demand Exceeded Expectations

The response to the programme has been stronger than many expected.

More than 500 applications were submitted from across the UAE, demonstrating growing interest in professional content creation. However, only 62 participants were selected for the first phase, making admission highly competitive.

The successful applicants will participate in a four-week intensive training camp where they will learn directly from experienced media professionals, digital strategists and communication experts.

Officials say the high number of applicants highlights increasing awareness that digital content creation is becoming both a profession and a public responsibility.

The Best Creators Will Continue Their Journey

The programme does not end after the initial workshops.

Once the first training phase concludes, the top 13 participants will move into a seven-month incubation programme. During this period, they will receive personalised mentoring from specialists at the New Media Academy.

The mentorship will focus on helping participants strengthen their creative identity, improve storytelling techniques and develop sustainable long-term content strategies. They will also receive guidance on production quality, audience engagement and building trusted online communities.

Organisers hope these creators will eventually become influential voices capable of inspiring families across the region.

A Diverse Group of Participants

One of the programme’s biggest strengths is the diversity of its participants.

Instead of inviting only established influencers, organisers intentionally selected individuals from different professional and personal backgrounds. Parents, aspiring digital creators and professionals working directly with families all form part of the first cohort.

The selected participants include teachers, doctors specialising in children’s health, family counsellors, lawyers, media professionals, caregivers for senior citizens and specialists supporting People of Determination.

Officials believe this variety of experiences will help produce authentic content that reflects real family challenges and everyday life in the UAE.

Supporting the UAE’s Family-Centred Vision

The initiative is part of the UAE’s wider efforts to strengthen family life through modern solutions.

Over recent years, authorities have introduced several projects promoting healthy parenting, child wellbeing and responsible digital citizenship. Earlier this year, financial support was also announced for creators producing educational and family-oriented content.

The Family Content Creators Programme expands those efforts by combining professional media education with social responsibility, ensuring creators are prepared to influence audiences in a positive way.

Encouraging Trust in Online Content

As social media continues expanding, questions surrounding misinformation, online behaviour and influencer responsibility have become increasingly important worldwide.

Rather than encouraging creators to chase viral trends, UAE officials want them to build trust through credible, thoughtful and constructive content.

By focusing on compassion, honesty and meaningful storytelling, organisers believe participants can help create safer digital spaces, particularly for younger audiences who spend significant time online.

Professional Skills With Lasting Social Impact

Experts involved in the programme emphasise that successful content creation requires much more than technical knowledge.

Modern creators must understand how their words, videos and online behaviour influence public opinion and family life. Every post has the potential to educate, inspire or shape attitudes.

Through practical workshops and ethical guidance, the programme aims to help creators develop content that delivers both entertainment and meaningful social impact.

Strengthening the UAE’s Creator Economy

The launch also supports the UAE’s ambition to become a regional centre for digital innovation and creative industries.

As online platforms continue creating new career opportunities, authorities want local creators to compete internationally while maintaining strong ethical standards.

Officials believe responsible creators can contribute not only to the digital economy but also to national identity, social cohesion and community development.

A Model That Could Inspire Other Countries

The Family Content Creators Programme represents more than another influencer training initiative.

It signals a shift towards recognising creators as important contributors to modern society. By combining technical expertise with values-based education, the UAE is encouraging a generation of digital storytellers capable of influencing audiences responsibly.

If successful, the programme may serve as a blueprint for other countries looking to balance the rapid growth of digital media with the need for trustworthy, family-friendly and socially beneficial content.
