The football superstar and Spanish-Argentine model reportedly tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, a coastal town west of Lisbon, on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by their five children and was kept largely away from the public eye.

The couple confirmed the marriage through a simple Instagram post showing their hands wearing matching gold wedding bands. The photograph was accompanied by the short caption, “C ❤️ G”. Despite the couple’s enormous global following, they have so far shared very few details about the ceremony.

Madeira rumours dominated wedding speculation

For much of the past year, reports had suggested that Ronaldo and Georgina would celebrate their wedding in Madeira, Ronaldo’s birthplace.

One widely circulated report claimed that the couple could marry at Funchal Cathedral, followed by a luxury reception at a nearby hotel. The historic cathedral, which dates back centuries, was frequently mentioned as a possible location for the much-anticipated event.

Other venues on the Portuguese island were also linked to the couple, including Quinta da Bela Vista and Ronaldo’s CR7 Hotel Pestana. However, neither Ronaldo’s representatives nor relevant local authorities publicly confirmed the reports.

At one point, a supposed wedding invitation also circulated online, but it was later identified as fake.

The eventual decision to marry in Cascais therefore came as a surprise to many followers who had spent months expecting a much larger celebration in Madeira.

The £10 million wedding speculation

The location was not the only aspect of the wedding surrounded by speculation. Reports also suggested that Ronaldo and Georgina could spend millions on their celebrations.

Branding expert Dylan Davey previously estimated that the wedding could cost more than £10 million, taking into account luxury accommodation, designer outfits, entertainment, travel arrangements and security.

The predictions were partly fuelled by the value of Georgina’s engagement ring, which has been the subject of numerous estimates. Experts examining photographs have placed its potential value anywhere from around £1.5 million to several million dollars.

However, these figures were only estimates based on photographs, meaning the actual value of the ring has never been publicly confirmed.

Ronaldo had hinted at a private celebration

Interestingly, Ronaldo had previously provided a clue about the type of wedding he and Georgina wanted.

While discussing their plans, the footballer suggested that the wedding could take place after the World Cup. He also acknowledged that Georgina was not interested in a large public celebration.

According to Ronaldo, she preferred private occasions and did not enjoy huge parties. His comments suggested that the couple could ultimately choose a more intimate ceremony rather than the extravagant event many reports had predicted.

Their decision to marry quietly in Cascais appears to have followed that preference.

A relationship spanning a decade

Ronaldo and Georgina first met in 2016 at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina was working at the time. Their relationship developed over the years, and they have since become one of the world’s most recognisable celebrity couples.

The couple announced their engagement last year, with Georgina showing off her striking engagement ring on social media.

Together, Ronaldo and Georgina have built a family that includes five children: Cristiano Jr., twins Eva Maria and Mateo, Alana and Bella. All five were reportedly present for their parents’ intimate wedding ceremony.

A surprisingly simple celebration

The contrast between the wedding rumours and the couple’s actual announcement has attracted considerable attention.

Instead of a heavily publicised destination wedding, an extensive guest list and a multimillion-pound celebration, Ronaldo and Georgina opted for privacy and a small family gathering.

The matching gold bands shown in their announcement were also noticeably understated compared with the spectacular engagement ring that had previously attracted worldwide attention.

For a couple accustomed to constant media attention, the decision to keep their wedding private appears to have been deliberate.

For now, many details remain unknown, including the exact venue in Cascais, the complete guest list and what the couple wore for the ceremony.

The couple’s understated announcement has left fans waiting for more details, but for Ronaldo and Georgina, the wedding appears to have been less about spectacle and more about celebrating their relationship and family away from the spotlight.
