AUS Strategic Growth Plans were approved by the Board of Trustees of the American University of Sharjah (AUS). The decisions were made during a recent board meeting chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi. The approvals support the university’s future development in education, research, governance and financial planning.
Sheikha Bodour said the board has helped strengthen AUS through transparency, careful planning and a clear vision. She thanked current and former trustees for their commitment to the university’s success. The new measures will help AUS continue its growth from a strong position.
Dr. Tod A. Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, said the approved initiatives provide a clear framework for the coming year. He noted that the plans will support faculty excellence, research activities and major development projects. These efforts are expected to create value for students, faculty and the wider community.
A key part of the AUS Strategic Growth Plans is the establishment of an AUS-owned K–12 school. The school will be managed by GEMS Education under a long-term agreement. It will follow an American curriculum and support research and innovation opportunities between the school and the university.
The board also approved the AUS Urban Hub Project. This mixed-use development will be built on university land near the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park. The project aims to create a sustainable and AI-enabled community with residential, commercial and innovation-focused spaces.
In addition, the board approved six new trustee appointments, faculty recognitions, budget plans and audited financial statements. These decisions reinforce AUS Strategic Growth Plans and support the university’s long-term mission of serving Sharjah and the UAE through quality education and research.
