UAE Announces Friday, March 20 as First Day of Eid Al Fitr 2026

The UAE has officially announced that Friday, March 20, 2026, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on Wednesday evening. Local media reports said the decision means Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30th day of Ramadan in the country.

The announcement was made after the UAE’s moon-sighting process concluded following Maghrib prayers, with authorities confirming that the new crescent was not visible. Earlier reports had indicated that astronomical calculations already suggested Ramadan would likely run its full 30 days this year, making a Friday Eid the expected outcome.

The confirmation provides clarity for residents, businesses, and public institutions across the Emirates as Eid preparations intensify. Under UAE law, the first three days of Shawwal are official Eid Al Fitr holidays. Because Ramadan has completed 30 days, residents are also expected to benefit from an extended holiday period running from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22.

Across the UAE, authorities have already begun rolling out Eid arrangements, including prayer schedules, transport adjustments, and holiday-related services to manage increased movement during the festive break. The announcement is especially significant for families making travel plans, attending Eid prayers, and organizing gatherings for the holiday.

Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important occasions in the Islamic calendar, celebrated with communal prayers, charity, family visits, and festive meals. In the UAE, the official declaration of the date follows the traditional moon-sighting method, ensuring the holiday begins in line with Islamic practice.

With the date now confirmed, communities across the country are preparing to welcome Eid with prayers, celebrations, and a long holiday weekend.
