The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced the start of redevelopment works at the Omran bin Taryam and Ahmed bin Hadeed roundabouts, introducing partial road diversions and closures on Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street during the construction period.

The authority said the project is part of its strategic efforts to replace key roundabouts with traffic signal-controlled intersections in order to improve mobility and reduce congestion across the emirate.

His Excellency Yousef Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, said the latest works continue SRTA’s ongoing programme to upgrade Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street, which serves as an extension of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi Street.

According to SRTA, several roundabouts along the route have already been transformed into signal-controlled junctions to improve traffic movement and enhance road safety.

The redevelopment of the Omran bin Taryam Roundabout, located between Al Ramtha, Al Qoz, Al Sweihat and Al Ramaqiya, includes the reconstruction of the junction and surrounding roads.

The project covers one kilometre of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometres of Abdullah Salem Al Sabah Street. Authorities said the road capacity will be expanded to include three through lanes along with additional turning lanes.

At the Ahmed bin Hadeed Roundabout, which connects Al Sweihat, Al Ramaqiya, Al Muwafjah and Al Yash, development works include the reconstruction of 1.2 kilometres of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometres of Sabah Salem Al Sabah Street.

The project will also involve widening road approaches and upgrading utility infrastructure to boost operational efficiency and ensure smoother traffic flow.

SRTA said the road improvements form part of broader infrastructure initiatives designed to support Sharjah’s economic, tourism and investment growth while enhancing transportation services and public safety across the emirate.
