What Is The Radar Control Limit?
According to Dubai Police, UAE road speeds include an official road speed and a radar control limit. The road speed is shown on road signs. The radar control limit is the speed at which radar cameras start recording speeding violations.
The difference between the two is known as the grace speed limit. In Dubai, this is usually between 20km/h and 30km/h above the posted speed limit, depending on the road.
Speed Limits On Major Dubai Roads
Several major roads have a 20km/h grace limit. For example, Al Khail Road has a road speed of 100km/h and a radar control speed of 121km/h. Emirates Road and Mohammad Bin Zayed Road have a road speed of 110km/h, with radar control at 131km/h.
Sheikh Zayed Road has different limits on different stretches. Its road speed can be 100km/h or 120km/h, while radar control can be 121km/h or 141km/h.
Dubai-Al Ain Road also has road speeds of 100km/h or 120km/h, with radar control at 121km/h or 141km/h.
Other roads, including Al Nahda Road, Damascus Street, Beirut Street and Airport Road, have a road speed of 80km/h and radar control at 101km/h.
Dubai Speeding Fines
Dubai speed limits explained also include the penalties for exceeding the maximum speed. Drivers exceeding the limit by more than 80km/h face a Dh3,000 fine, 23 black points and 60-day vehicle impoundment.
Exceeding the limit by more than 60km/h carries a Dh2,000 fine, 12 black points and 30-day impoundment. A violation of up to 60km/h can bring a Dh1,500 fine, six black points and 15-day impoundment.
Lower speeding violations can also result in fines of Dh700, Dh600 or Dh300, depending on how much the maximum speed is exceeded.
Drivers should always follow the posted speed limit and check road signs carefully, as limits can differ across stretches of the same road.
