Pakistan Away Test Defeat continued as West Indies defeated Pakistan by 90 runs in the first Test on Tuesday. The result gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. It also extended Pakistan’s losing streak in away Test matches to eight. Jayden Seales starred with the ball, while West Indies produced a complete team performance. The Pakistan Away Test Defeat once again exposed the team’s struggles in overseas conditions against quality pace bowling.
Pakistan started the final day needing 211 runs for victory. The target looked achievable. However, the batting line-up failed under pressure. The visitors were bowled out for just 120 in a little over 40 overs. Fast bowlers dominated the entire match, taking all 40 wickets across both teams.
Jayden Seales was the hero for West Indies. The fast bowler claimed outstanding figures of 5-18. It was his fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He removed key batters at important moments and never allowed Pakistan to settle.
Seales gave West Indies the perfect start by dismissing Imam-ul-Haq with a sharp delivery that came back into the batter. Soon after, debutant Azan Awais edged another delivery behind. Salman Agha also fell lbw after another ball moved back sharply.
Justin Greaves continued the pressure with the ball. He bowled Mohammad Rizwan before dismissing Aamer Jamal. Pakistan quickly lost wickets and found themselves in deep trouble during the opening session.
Captain Shan Masood tried to fight despite suffering a fractured finger in the first innings. However, he looked uncomfortable throughout his stay at the crease. He attempted an attacking shot but was caught after making only a short contribution.
Babar Azam was the only Pakistan batter who stood firm. The former captain remained unbeaten on 58 runs. He mixed solid defence with elegant stroke play to score his 32nd Test half-century. However, he received very little support from the other end.
Babar and Mohammad Abbas added a fighting last-wicket partnership that delayed the result for a short time. Abbas played useful shots while Babar carefully managed the strike. Eventually, Seales trapped Abbas lbw to complete his five-wicket haul and seal the victory for West Indies.
Earlier in the match, West Indies posted 311 runs in their first innings. Captain Shai Hope led from the front with an impressive 92. Alick Athanaze Hodge added a valuable 84 to strengthen the total.
Pakistan responded with 282 runs. Shan Masood scored a determined 109, while Imam-ul-Haq made 63. Despite those efforts, Justin Greaves produced an excellent bowling display and claimed 5-27. His performance helped West Indies secure a narrow first-innings lead.
In the second innings, Pakistan fought back through Mohammad Abbas. The experienced fast bowler recorded career-best figures of 5-22 as West Indies were dismissed for 181. Shamar Joseph’s aggressive 38 and important lower-order partnerships pushed the target beyond 200, giving the hosts a valuable advantage.
The Pakistan Away Test Defeat means West Indies cannot lose the two-match series. Their pace attack delivered throughout the contest and fully deserved the win. The Caribbean side also celebrated victory on what would have been the 90th birthday of legendary all-rounder Sir Garry Sobers, making the success even more special.
For Pakistan, the defeat raises fresh concerns before the second and final Test. Their eighth straight away Test loss highlights ongoing problems in overseas conditions. The batting line-up struggled against disciplined fast bowling, while the team failed to build partnerships when they mattered most. Pakistan must improve quickly if they hope to level the series and avoid another disappointing overseas result.
