SHARJAH — The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has announced the introduction of new master’s degree programs in data analytics, sustainability and trans-disciplinary design, reinforcing its strategy to prepare students for the evolving global job market.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, President of AUS, said the initiative reflects the university board’s commitment to aligning higher education with future economic and technological needs. She noted that industries worldwide are rapidly transforming due to artificial intelligence, environmental priorities and cross-disciplinary innovation, requiring graduates to develop broader skill sets.
The new programs are designed to combine technical knowledge with creative and strategic thinking. The data analytics degree will focus on interpreting complex datasets and supporting decision-making across business and government sectors. The sustainability program will address climate challenges, responsible resource management and sustainable urban development, while the trans-disciplinary design program aims to integrate design thinking with engineering, technology and social sciences.
University officials say the expansion supports the UAE’s wider national goals of developing a knowledge-based economy and strengthening research and innovation capacity. By offering specialized graduate pathways, AUS seeks to attract both regional and international students interested in emerging career fields.
Education analysts note that universities across the Gulf are increasingly redesigning postgraduate education to match labor market demands, particularly in digital technology and environmental sectors. AUS’s new degrees reflect a growing emphasis on flexible, cross-sector expertise rather than traditional single-discipline qualifications.
The programs are expected to open enrollment in the upcoming academic cycle, with faculty recruitment and industry partnerships already underway.
