The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong warning to citizens against illegal online content sharing on social media platforms.
In a public statement, PTA reminded people that while freedom of speech is a constitutional right, using it to promote unlawful or harmful material online is a punishable crime under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
The authority listed illegal activities including posting blasphemous content, disrespecting religions or prophets, spreading hatred, inciting violence, sharing false propaganda against national institutions, and circulating obscene or immoral material. PTA also warned against spreading fake news that can harm public peace and security.
For public safety, PTA urged citizens to report harmful content through the PTA CMS mobile app. It advised everyone to “Be alert, stay safe” while using online platforms.
Recently, PTA also warned users about fraudulent courier messages. Scammers pretend to be delivery companies to steal personal information by sending fake verification codes and links. Illegal online content sharing. PTA confirmed these messages are fake and unrelated to any official courier service. It advised the public not to share verification codes or respond to suspicious calls or texts.
The authority assured that it is working to make online spaces safer and asked users to cooperate by avoiding illegal activities and reporting harmful content immediately.
