Emraan Hashmi is set to portray BSF officer Narendra Nath Dubey in the upcoming film Ground Zero. Based on real events, the film explores a crucial mission from the early 2000s in Kashmir. Dubey played a key role in eliminating terrorist mastermind Ghazi Baba, making this operation a defining moment in India’s national security history.
Unlike previous films that focused on the Indian Army or police, Ground Zero pays exclusive tribute to the Border Security Force. “This is the first film that solely honours the BSF,” Hashmi said. “We needed to highlight their courage and sacrifices.”
The actor shared that taking on a real-life role came with immense responsibility. “Wearing that uniform on screen means representing the entire force. It’s not just acting—it’s a duty,” he explained. He added that cinema can preserve stories for future generations, and this story deserved that legacy.
Hashmi recalled his first meeting with Dubey as deeply humbling. That simplicity shaped my performance,” he said. During filming in Rajasthan, Hashmi witnessed the tough conditions BSF officers endure. “They live far from their families, often in extreme climates. Their sacrifices are real.”
Shooting in Kashmir brought new perspectives. “I had assumptions before visiting; however, the beauty and warmth of the people truly surprised me,” he shared. Furthermore, he emphasized that public perception of the region must change. Notably, Ground Zero will premiere in Srinagar on April 18—the first film to do so in 38 years. Emraan Hashmi sees this as a cultural breakthrough. “Events like this bring hope and normalcy back to the region,” he said.
Looking ahead, Hashmi revealed his interest in exploring science fiction. “It’s a genre we’ve barely touched in Indian cinema. The time is right to take risks,” he concluded.
Ground Zero is scheduled for theatrical release on April 25.
