Authorities in Sharjah have announced that public parking will be free on Sunday, July 7, in celebration of the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year).
This decision was revealed on Saturday, aiming to provide convenience to residents during the holiday.
However, the exemption does not extend to the seven-day paid public parking zones, which remain operational throughout the week and on official holidays. These zones are identified by blue parking information signs, according to the Sharjah Municipality.
Earlier in the week, UAE authorities confirmed a one-day paid holiday for government employees in observance of the Islamic New Year. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources declared Muharram 1, the first day of the Islamic calendar, as a holiday. July 7 will also be a paid holiday for private sector employees.
Following this holiday, residents can anticipate another day off for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birthday, as per the list of holidays for 2024 announced by the country’s Cabinet.
The final official holiday of the year will be a long weekend, as the nation prepares to celebrate National Day.
This announcement provides residents with a brief respite and an opportunity to enjoy the Islamic New Year without the hassle of parking fees, except in specified zones.
