UAE weather forecast: NCM issues red alert for fog

Residents in the UAE woke up to a damp start as light rains and heavy drizzles were reported in some parts of the country, particularly along the eastern coast.

Videos shared by Storm Centre captured the early morning showers that brought a refreshing change to the region’s weather.

However, the morning wasn’t just about rain. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a warning to motorists about poor visibility due to fog formation, particularly on Saturday morning, August 17. The weather department sent out a red alert, advising that horizontal visibility could drop significantly, with some areas affected until 8:30 AM.

In light of the foggy conditions, Abu Dhabi Police took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to remind drivers to exercise caution on the roads. Motorists were urged to adhere to the fluctuating speed limits displayed on electronic information boards to ensure safety.

For the rest of the day, the weather across the UAE is expected to remain fair, with some areas experiencing partly cloudy conditions, especially in the southern regions. The eastern coast may see the development of low clouds, which could potentially bring more rain.

As the weather continues to change, authorities are emphasizing the importance of vigilance on the roads to prevent accidents due to reduced visibility and wet conditions.
