Top visa-free countries for UAE residents: Beyond the usual

With airfares skyrocketing by up to 300% for popular visa-free destinations like Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, UAE residents are feeling the pinch as they plan their getaways for the upcoming National Day holidays from November 30 to December 3.

Round-trip tickets to these countries are now exceeding Dh2,800, a sharp increase that has caught many travelers off guard.

“National Day holidays always see high demand for travel,” said Bharath Aidasani, Managing Partner at Pluto Travels. “But this year, the surge in prices for these popular destinations has surprised everyone, leaving travelers to reconsider their options.”

However, all is not lost for those looking for a more affordable escape. Travel experts suggest that UAE residents consider other visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations that currently offer lower airfares. Countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Seychelles, and Zanzibar have emerged as attractive alternatives with more reasonable ticket prices.

“Destinations like Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are always in demand, but places like Uzbekistan, Seychelles, Zanzibar, and Kazakhstan are also popular and haven’t seen the same spike in airfare,” said Pavan Poojary, a travel consultant at Luxury Travel. “These countries offer visa-on-arrival options for many nationalities residing in the UAE, making them ideal for a quick getaway during the National Day break.”

For those craving a beach holiday, Seychelles and the Maldives stand out as top picks. “These destinations offer stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a tranquil environment perfect for relaxation,” Aidasani added. “However, given the increasing demand, it’s advisable to book flights as early as possible to avoid inflated prices.”

For adventure seekers, the mountainous landscapes of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan present exciting opportunities. “These destinations are less than four hours away, which is ideal for travelers looking to maximize their holiday time,” said Geoffrey Salatan, CEO of Geof Travel. “The cool weather, rugged terrains, and unique cultural experiences make these countries particularly appealing during the winter season.”

Zanzibar is also capturing the interest of many UAE residents, known for its breathtaking landscapes and unique cultural heritage. “Zanzibar offers an entirely different experience that’s gaining popularity among travelers from the UAE,” said Poojary.

With inquiries for these destinations already on the rise, travel industry experts are urging residents to secure their bookings soon. “We’re seeing a steady increase in demand as the National Day holidays approach,” Aidasani noted. “Fares are likely to increase further, so booking early is key to avoiding high prices.”
