Three people were killed and at least 58 others injured after the United Arab Emirates intercepted multiple drones launched toward the country, authorities confirmed on Sunday. Officials said air-defence systems successfully destroyed the incoming aerial threats, but falling debris caused casualties and damage in several areas.
According to emergency services, the fatalities occurred when fragments struck a residential zone, while most injuries were reported as minor to moderate. Ambulances and civil defence teams responded immediately, transporting victims to nearby hospitals and securing impacted locations.
The UAE government stated that the drones were launched from Iranian-aligned sources and described the attack as a violation of international law and national sovereignty. Authorities added that investigations are ongoing to assess the scale of the incident and identify all responsible parties.
Airspace monitoring systems were activated across the Emirates as a precaution, and residents received safety alerts urging them to stay indoors and follow official instructions. Some public services and institutions temporarily adjusted operations while emergency crews cleared debris and inspected infrastructure.
Officials emphasized that defence forces intercepted the majority of the drones before they reached major population centers, preventing what could have been a far larger tragedy. Security agencies remain on high alert, coordinating with regional and international partners.
Hospitals across the country confirmed they have adequate capacity and medical supplies to treat the injured. Psychological support services were also made available for affected families.
The government urged the public to avoid sharing unverified videos or information online and rely only on official announcements. Authorities reiterated that national security remains stable and that protective measures are being strengthened.
Leaders concluded by expressing condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding all citizens and residents.
