A shocking murder in Agra has stunned local residents after a 32-year-old human resources manager was allegedly beheaded and dismembered by her lover in a gruesome crime of passion, police said on Tuesday. Authorities arrested the accused, identified as 30-year-old Vinay Singh, after CCTV footage helped track him following the discovery of the victim’s body near the Yamuna river.
The victim, Minky Sharma, who worked as an HR manager at a private firm in Sanjay Place, was reported missing by her family on January 23 after she left home saying she was going to work but never returned. When her family reported her disappearance, police launched an immediate investigation, including reviewing security footage from multiple locations.
In the early hours of January 24, passersby alerted authorities to a suspicious gunny bag lying near Jawahar Bridge in Parvati Vihar. Upon inspection, officers found the naked, headless body of a woman inside. Police later identified the remains as Sharma’s.
CCTV footage revealed a man — later identified as Vinay Singh — dragging a bag from office premises before riding away on a scooter registered to the victim. Police tracked and arrested Singh within hours. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to killing Sharma following a heated argument about their relationship, which police said had been ongoing for more than two years.
According to investigators, Singh lured Sharma to the office under the pretext of a discussion, where an argument erupted. In a fit of rage, he stabbed her in the neck, then dismembered the body. He attempted to dispose of her remains by dumping them near the Yamuna river and abandoning the severed head and other evidence at separate locations.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and authorities are continuing efforts to recover the victim’s severed head as part of the ongoing investigation.
