Etihad Airways Captain Huda Al Musallami has become the UAE’s first Emirati woman training captain. The milestone marks a major achievement for women in the country’s aviation sector. Her appointment was announced on Emirati Women’s Day and highlights the growing role of Emirati women in aviation.

From First Officer To Captain
Al Musallami began her aviation career in 2003. She joined Etihad Airways in 2014. After years of experience, she became a captain in 2023.
In 2026, she qualified as a Type Rating Instructor. She now has a new responsibility. She will train and qualify pilots according to Etihad’s safety and professional standards.
She currently holds a Boeing 787 type rating. She has also flown Airbus A330, Airbus A340 and Boeing 777 aircraft. Her career includes more than 10,000 flying hours.
A Career Built On Education
Al Musallami has also built a strong academic background. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management. She also has a Master’s degree in Business Management and Information Systems.
Her experience and education have helped her move from flying aircraft to training the pilots who will operate them in the future.

For Al Musallami, becoming the Emirati Woman Training Captain is about more than earning a new title. She said being the first should help create opportunities for other Emirati women.

According to Etihad, Emirati women make up 75 per cent of UAE nationals in its workforce. They work across different areas, including flight operations and senior leadership.
