The Arab Poetry Forum Senegal brought together 15 male and female poets in Dakar as the fifth edition of the forum was held in Senegal. The event was organised by the Cultural Affairs Department of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Held in cooperation with the Senegal Literary Club, the forum attracted academics, researchers, university students and others interested in the Arabic language. The event is part of Sharjah’s wider cultural initiatives supporting Arabic poetry and promoting the Arabic language across Africa.
The Arab Poetry Forum Senegal also aimed to strengthen cultural links between Africa and the Arab world. It provided Arabic-speaking poets with an opportunity to present their literary experiences, creative works and different styles of expression.
Among those attending were Taha Sheikh Abu Khalid, representative of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, and Dr Ousmane N’Goujou Thiao, Head of the Arabic Language Department at Cheikh Anta Diop University. University professors, researchers and students also attended the event.
General coordinator Mohamed El Hadi Sall thanked the Department of Culture in Sharjah for supporting the forum. He also praised the cultural patronage of the Ruler of Sharjah and highlighted its role in encouraging poets and promoting Arabic literature.
The poetry readings showcased the participants’ connection with the Arabic language and their passion for poetry. The event also highlighted poetry as a bridge between cultures and a powerful way to encourage communication, creativity and cultural cooperation between Senegal and Sharjah.
