Etihad Rail Passenger Stations are now becoming a reality as the UAE launches the first phase of its long-awaited passenger railway network. The new service covers around 900 kilometres and will eventually connect 10 cities and towns across the country. The project is designed to make travel faster, easier, and more comfortable. The first passenger services have already started, while more stations will open in stages over the coming months and into 2027.
The first operational stations are in Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi and Al Hilal in Fujairah. Dubai’s main station at Jumeirah Golf Estates will open later this year. Etihad Rail Passenger Stations will also feature cafés, restaurants, retail shops, and modern passenger facilities. The railway is expected to transform travel across the UAE.
Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi
This is one of the first stations to welcome passengers. Located close to Abu Dhabi city centre, it offers direct access to the capital and serves as a major transport hub for commuters.
Al Hilal, Fujairah
Al Hilal is the easternmost station on the network. It provides convenient access to Fujairah city and nearby Qidfa. It was also among the first stations to begin passenger operations during the introductory phase.
Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai
Dubai’s first Etihad Rail passenger station is located along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It will connect with Dubai Metro’s Red Line and the future Gold Line, making travel across the emirate more convenient.
Al Dhaid, Sharjah
Located in one of Sharjah’s largest cities, Al Dhaid station will become an important connection for people travelling between Sharjah and Dubai. It is expected to begin operations on September 30.
University City, Sharjah
This station will serve Sharjah’s education district near Sharjah International Airport. It will provide students, residents, and Air Arabia passengers with easier transport. It is scheduled to open in March 2027.
Madinat Zayed, Abu Dhabi
Madinat Zayed is one of the largest towns in the Al Dhafra region. The new station will improve travel for residents and visitors heading to western Abu Dhabi.
Liwa, Abu Dhabi
The Liwa station, located near Mezairaa in the famous Liwa Oasis, will make it easier to reach one of the UAE’s most beautiful desert destinations. It is expected to open later this year.
Al Mirfa, Abu Dhabi
Al Mirfa is known for its peaceful beaches and fishing heritage. The railway station will improve transport links between this coastal town and other parts of the UAE.
Al Dhannah, Abu Dhabi
Al Dhannah is one of the largest cities in Abu Dhabi emirate. The new station will strengthen transport connections for residents and businesses in the western region.
Al Sila, Abu Dhabi
Situated near the UAE’s western border, Al Sila will play a key role in future regional rail travel. It is expected to become an important stop when the GCC Railway Project is completed.
Faster travel across the UAE
The new railway will significantly reduce travel times. Journeys between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and between Dubai and Fujairah, are expected to take around 50 minutes. Travelling from Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais will take about one hour and 10 minutes, while Abu Dhabi to Fujairah will take approximately one hour and 40 minutes.
Passenger trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The planned high-speed rail service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is expected to reach speeds of 350 km/h. By 2030, the national railway aims to carry around 36 million passengers every year, making it one of the UAE’s biggest transport projects.
