Meteorologists say the country is now entering the seasonal shift known locally as the “spring instability period,” when temperatures fluctuate and brief rain systems still pass through before sustained heat arrives.
Typically, the UAE’s winter runs from December through February. By early March, daytime temperatures begin climbing into the high-20s and low-30s°C, while nights remain mild. This period often brings sudden changes: one day can feel almost summery, while the next turns breezy or cloudy due to shifting pressure systems moving across the Arabian Peninsula.
Forecasters explain the swings are caused by clashes between lingering cool air masses from the north and warmer desert air building from the south. The interaction triggers convective clouds, occasional thunderstorms, and short rainfall bursts — sometimes accompanied by gusty winds and dusty conditions.
Humidity also starts increasing as sea temperatures rise, especially along coastal areas like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While residents may interpret the warmer afternoons as the start of summer, experts say the “official end” of winter is usually mid-March, when nighttime temperatures consistently stay above 22°C and cold fronts stop reaching the country.
After that point, temperatures rise quickly. By April, the UAE typically shifts into pre-summer heat, and by May sustained summer conditions take over.
In short, the remaining weeks are considered a transitional phase not winter, but not fully summer either bringing the last chances for pleasant weather and occasional rain before the long hot season begins.
