UAE posts major progress in energy, transport networks and housing in 2025

The United Arab Emirates recorded solid momentum across key sectors in 2025, with measurable gains in energy, infrastructure and housing reflecting strategic planning paired with efficient implementation.

In housing, federal initiatives provided extensive support to Emirati citizens through thousands of approved assistance cases, including grants, loans and financing options exceeding AED 2.5 billion in total value. These measures helped lift the national homeownership rate to approximately 91 per cent, ranking the UAE among the world’s leading countries in citizen property ownership. The year also marked a diplomatic milestone, as the UAE was elected president of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme General Assembly and secured membership on its Executive Council for the first time, strengthening its voice in global housing policy.

Progress in the energy sector underscored the country’s growing leadership in efficiency and sustainability. The launch of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance brought together more than 40 countries and international bodies to collaborate on reducing consumption and improving resource use. National frameworks, including the State of Energy Report and the National Energy and Water Demand Management Programme 2050, further reinforced efforts to lower long-term demand and advance sustainability targets.

In infrastructure and transport, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure pushed forward a nationwide strategy to reduce congestion and improve federal road networks. Planned transport and road developments worth more than AED 170 billion through 2030 include major upgrades to Emirates Road, expansions of critical highways, and feasibility studies for a proposed Fourth Federal Road aimed at accommodating growing inter-emirate traffic.

Beyond these sectors, the UAE strengthened performance in digital government services, maritime transport and community engagement, earning multiple awards and international certifications, expanding strategic partnerships and rolling out enhanced digital platforms to improve access to government services.

Collectively, these achievements reflect the UAE’s continued focus on resilient infrastructure, efficient energy systems and improved living standards, in line with its long-term national visions for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
