Malaika Arora feels empowered performing item songs

Malaika Arora feels empowered performing item songs at 52. The Bollywood actor says dance gives her confidence and she sees no reason to apologize. In a recent interview on The Namrata Zakaria Show, Malaika shared her thoughts on criticism and her career.

She has performed some of Bollywood’s most iconic songs, from Chaiyya Chaiyya and Munni Badnaam Hui to Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Chillgum and Poison Baby. Despite facing trolling over the years, Malaika continues to embrace her roles. She said, “Why do I need to tone it down or be apologetic? I feel truly blessed to do this at 52.”

For Malaika, dance is more than performance. She describes it as a form of expression that makes her feel strong and confident. She added, “It is very empowering. If women see it as empowering too, that’s wonderful.”

She also noted how item songs have evolved. Earlier, they focused mainly on glamour. Now, filmmakers give them more narrative context, offering performers creative space. This shift reflects changing industry trends and audience expectations.

Malaika Arora feels empowered performing item songs, and she wants women to embrace their choices without guilt. Her career proves that age should not limit expression or confidence in Bollywood.
