Sharjah African Literature Festival is returning to Sharjah for its second edition, reinforcing the emirate’s role as a global cultural hub. The festival will take place from January 14 to 18, 2026, at University City, Sharjah. It is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority, the festival is led by Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Authority. Sharjah African Literature Festival aims to build strong cultural links between the Arab world and Africa through literature, storytelling, and dialogue.

The event builds on the success of its first edition, which attracted more than 10,000 visitors. This year’s programme focuses on social change, shared memory, and the diversity of African narratives. It highlights the rhythm, depth, and influence of African literature across cultures.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi said the festival reflects Sharjah’s long-term commitment to literature as a shared human space. She noted that the emirate supports translation, cultural diversity, and the global reach of writers and publishers.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, said the festival continues the cultural vision of Sharjah’s Ruler. He added that the event promotes dialogue, supports publishing, and deepens understanding of African literary traditions.

The festival programme includes panel discussions, workshops for children and youth, artistic and musical performances, African food experiences, and an art exhibition. These activities offer visitors a complete cultural experience.

Through Sharjah African Literature Festival, Sharjah continues to promote cross-border literature, cultural exchange, and global awareness.
