Sharjah — Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Sharjah Family and Community Council, on Wednesday warmly received the victorious Sharjah Women’s Sports Club volleyball team, praising their historic success at the inaugural West Asia Women’s Volleyball Clubs Championship held in Kuwait.
The reception, held at Al Badee’ Palace, celebrated a landmark moment for women’s sport in Sharjah and the UAE. It was attended by Sheikha Haya Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee of the Arab Women Sports Tournament, along with officials, coaches, and players.
The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team clinched the championship title after a commanding 3–0 straight-sets victory over Kuwait’s Al-Fatat Club in the final match at Salwa Al-Sabah Sports Club. The triumph marked the first title of its kind for the club and the West Asian Volleyball Association (WAVA) championship.
‘Sport is not just about trophies’
In a heartfelt address, Sheikha Jawaher expressed immense pride in the players, describing the victory as the result of years of patience, discipline, and belief.
“Our daughters, with whom we began this dream at a young age, have raised the name of Sharjah high by winning the cup and gold medals in Kuwait,” she said. “This achievement is only the beginning of an ambitious journey toward regional and international podiums, built on firm values and true sportsmanship.”
She emphasised that sport, in Sharjah’s vision, is about building people before medals.
“We believe sport is not merely about results and trophies. It is a journey shaped by commitment, strengthened by values, and guided by ethics,” Sheikha Jawaher said, adding that the ultimate goal is to develop accomplished individuals who reflect Sharjah’s identity with honour and integrity.
She also acknowledged the competitive strength of regional teams, noting that Sharjah’s approach prioritises steady, sustainable progress over rushed success, learning from every experience without compromising values.
A milestone for women’s sport in the UAE
Sheikha Haya Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa congratulated the team, calling the title a pivotal milestone not only for the club but for women’s sport across the UAE and the Gulf.
“This championship confirms that Emirati women are capable of competing, excelling, and raising the national flag high on regional and international stages,” she said.
An unbeaten championship run
The title capped a flawless campaign for the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Their journey included victories over Qatar’s Al Arabi Club, Yemen’s Al Nasr Club, and Kuwait’s Salwa Al-Sabah Club in the group stage.
In the knockout rounds, the team defeated Saudi Arabia’s Al Fayhaa Club in the quarterfinals and overcame Al Ula Club in a highly competitive semifinal, before sealing the championship with a confident performance in the final.
The victory stands as a powerful testament to Sharjah’s long-term investment in women’s sport, reinforcing a vision where excellence, ethics, and continuity go hand in hand — and where dreams nurtured with sincerity are destined to reach the highest summits.
