UAE grants first drone airspace certificate

The UAE grants first drone airspace certificate to Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS). This marks a major step in the country’s aviation sector. The certificate was issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), making DANS the first licensed drone airspace service provider in the nation.

In March 2025, the UAE introduced national regulations for accrediting drone navigation providers. This certification is the first real outcome of those rules. It shows how the country is building strong systems to manage drone operations safely.

DANS, along with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and ANRA Technologies, developed a new drone air traffic management platform. The system allows instant flight approvals, integrates radar and weather data, and improves conflict detection. It is also designed to support future urban air mobility services.

The certification process was strict. It included operational readiness checks, system tests, and compliance with global standards. This proves the maturity of the UAE’s aviation infrastructure and regulatory framework.

Officials praised the achievement. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA, commended DANS for its technical strength. Ibrahim Ahli, CEO of DANS, said this success benefits not just Dubai but the entire UAE aviation system.

The UAE grants first drone airspace certificate is an important milestone. It highlights the nation’s role as a leader in drone regulation, digital aviation, and smart air mobility. With this step, the UAE is closer to creating safe and efficient skies for drones and future flying vehicles.
