Aamir Khan Never Wanted to Be a Producer, Reveals in Podcast

Aamir Khan never wanted to be a producer and has now shared why. Speaking on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers: The Producer Series podcast, the actor revealed that he avoided producing films because of what he saw during his father’s career. His father, Tahir Hussain, faced many struggles as a producer, and this left a strong impression on him.

Aamir explained that he was satisfied being an actor and never thought of producing. He said producing involved the most hard work, highest financial risks, and criticism. According to him, “You spend money, take risks, do the most effort, and still get blamed.” He added that sometimes even the team did not cooperate. He recalled that one of his father’s films, Locket, took eight years to finish.

Because of this, he had made up his mind early. Aamir Khan never wanted to be a producer and even said in old interviews that he would never produce a film. He admitted that he was happy just acting, earning his fee, and not interfering with producers. Directing was something he thought he might do someday, but producing was not on his list.

Later, Aamir did become a producer and surprised his fans. He now believes people should never make categorical statements about what they will never do. Life, he said, can take unexpected turns.

The Game Changers Podcast: The Producer Series aims to bring inspiring stories from well-known producers. With this edition, Aamir’s honest confession shows the tough side of filmmaking that often remains hidden.
