Sharjah has introduced a new policy to help residents manage long-standing traffic fines. Violations that are over 10 years old can now be cancelled for a fee of Dh1,000.
This initiative was announced during a recent meeting at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office. The move is part of the emirate’s efforts to ease financial burdens and promote traffic law compliance.
The session was chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, also Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, was present at the meeting.
According to officials, the decision applies to violations that are 10 years old from the date they were issued. Residents now have the opportunity to clear such fines by submitting a cancellation request along with the fixed fee.
However, not all cases require payment. The Executive Council has listed specific conditions that qualify for fee exemption.
Who is Exempt from the Dh1,000 Fee?
Certain cases are eligible for a fee waiver. These include:
- If the vehicle owner has passed away, with official documentation.
- If the owner has been outside the UAE for more than 10 consecutive years.
- If the vehicle was abandoned and the authorities were unable to contact the owner.
These exemptions ensure fairness for people who are no longer in a position to resolve their fines.
Furthermore, the new policy reflects Sharjah’s focus on updating its administrative processes. By addressing old and unresolved violations, the emirate hopes to improve road safety and encourage responsible driving.
In addition, this move supports ongoing government efforts to create a more efficient and responsive traffic system. Residents are advised to contact the Sharjah Police or visit their official website for more details on the application process.
Overall, this initiative marks a significant step in supporting residents while maintaining road discipline across Sharjah.
