Motorists commuting from Sharjah to Dubai are finally enjoying smoother drives, thanks to the newly opened Al Shindagha Bridge. Although the route covers the same distance, the travel experience has changed dramatically. The bridge, located just after the Infinity Bridge on the way to Sheikh Zayed Road, has eliminated the heavy congestion that drivers used to face every morning.
This new link connects Al Khaleej Street to Khalid bin Al Waleed Road, providing direct access to Dubai Frame, Al Khail Road, and other central areas. As a result, it has quickly become a preferred route for many heading toward Sheikh Zayed Road and major business districts. The alternative path is helping motorists avoid daily traffic jams on Ittihad Road, the Airport Tunnel, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
Moreover, the new route is not just faster—it’s more cost-effective. Many commuters are reporting noticeable savings on fuel and reduced wear on their vehicles. The morning drive now feels like a “reverse bottleneck”—it begins with narrow lanes and gradually opens up, improving the traffic flow.
However, the situation changes during the evening return. Traffic begins to build near the Infinity Bridge, especially around the Waterfront Market and the Al Mamzar exit leading to Ittihad Road. In contrast to the morning, the road narrows on the return, causing delays.
Despite the evening issues, many believe that once the remaining construction on Corniche Street is complete, the route will improve further. Residents near the New Gold Souk Extension say the impact has been immediate. Their daily commute has become less stressful and much quicker.
Overall, commuters are hopeful. With continued investment in infrastructure, they expect traffic congestion between Sharjah and Dubai to reduce over time, creating a better experience for all.
