Safeer Mall in Sharjah closes after nearly two decades

Safeer Mall

Sharjah’s well-known shopping hub, Safeer Mall, has officially closed its doors. The iconic mall, located on Al Khan Road, shut down two months ago. This marks the end of an era for residents and visitors alike.

The mall’s blue signage, including its name and logo, has been removed. With three floors and two basement parking levels, it was a familiar landmark. Motorists and expatriates, who have called the UAE home for decades, often used it as a reference point.

Safeer Mall: A Landmark Since 2005

Al Safeer Group developed the mall in 2005. Initially, it started as a discount center. Later, the group expanded it and rebranded it as Safeer Mall. Over the years, it became a go-to destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Long before the UAE became a global retail hub, Safeer Mall defined shopping for many early residents. For those in their early 20s today, the mall holds nostalgic childhood memories. Many recall surprise dance performances, family outings, and festive celebrations.

The mall attracted not just residents but also visitors from across the UAE. Its convenient location and diverse offerings made it a popular choice. Weekends and holidays often saw families gathering to shop, dine, and enjoy entertainment.

The Legacy of Al Safeer Group

Al Safeer Group began its UAE retail journey in 1985 with Shop N Save supermarkets. In 1997, it introduced a discount market. Then, in 2000, the company launched Safeer Market in Nahda. Safeer Mall, strategically located on the Dubai-Sharjah highway, opened in 2005.

Today, the group operates hypermarkets and marts across Sharjah and Dubai. It also owns Safeer Malls in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. Additionally, Century Mall in Dubai’s Hor Al Anz East has been part of its retail portfolio since 2003.
