UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged all parties to prevent a return to war in Gaza. Speaking on Tuesday, he warned that renewed hostilities would cause an immense humanitarian tragedy.
“We must avoid at all costs the resumption of hostilities in Gaza that would lead to an immense tragedy,” Guterres said. He stressed that a peaceful resolution remains the only viable path forward.
Furthermore, Guterres called on Hamas to proceed with the planned release of hostages scheduled for Saturday. He emphasized that both sides must fully honor their commitments under the existing ceasefire agreement.
“The ceasefire must hold, and serious negotiations in Doha for the second phase must resume,” he added. Additionally, he urged international mediators to increase efforts in facilitating dialogue between all involved parties.
The current ceasefire agreement, brokered through intense diplomatic efforts, remains fragile. Any escalation could severely worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached alarming levels. Thousands of displaced civilians urgently need food, water, and medical assistance. Relief agencies warn that renewed conflict would make aid delivery nearly impossible.
For this reason, the UN has repeatedly called for unrestricted humanitarian access to affected areas. Guterres reaffirmed that protecting civilians must remain a top priority. Without immediate action, the situation could deteriorate further.
At the same time, global leaders continue pushing for a long-term solution to the conflict. Negotiations in Doha remain central to efforts aimed at securing lasting peace. However, mediators warn that without commitment from both sides, temporary agreements could quickly collapse.
Therefore, Guterres urged world powers to intensify diplomatic efforts. He reiterated that dialogue and negotiation remain the only sustainable paths to peace.
As tensions rise, international pressure is increasing to prevent another devastating cycle of violence in Gaza.
