Dubai driver sentenced in prison, deported for assaulting passenger

Dubai

A driver working for a Dubai luxury transport company received a one-year prison sentence and deportation for assaulting a female passenger.

The incident occurred in April last year when a European Dubai resident booked a ride from a hotel in Business Bay. According to court records, the Asian driver deviated from the designated route toward an isolated and poorly lit area, where the assault happened.

The victim, who was intoxicated, said she hailed the ride around 9 pm from outside a five-star hotel. Shortly after the journey began, the driver pulled over, asked her to step out, and led her to a sandy area. There, the assault occurred.

“He just left me there, and I can’t remember everything that happened. I just remember parts,” she stated during the investigation.

After the incident, she managed to walk to a nearby building, hailed another taxi, and returned home. The next morning, recalling fragments of the assault, she immediately contacted the police to report the crime.

Following her complaint, forensic medical reports confirmed evidence consistent with her testimony. Authorities promptly summoned the driver for questioning.

Although he claimed the woman was unsure of her residence and had no money for the fare, evidence contradicted his defense. The victim positively identified him during a police lineup, strengthening the case against him.

Despite asserting that the absence of a translator led to a misstatement during questioning, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced the driver to one year in prison followed by deportation. Notably, forensic reports aligned with the victim’s account, reinforcing the verdict.

Public Safety: Dubai government’s priority

This ruling underscores Dubai’s unwavering commitment to public safety and justice for victims of assault. Authorities urge passengers to remain cautious and report any misconduct promptly.

Such strict legal measures demonstrate the emirate’s dedication to maintaining a secure transportation environment while ensuring accountability for criminal behavior.
