A Dubai court has sentenced a man to three years in prison and fined him Dh50,000 for attempted murder. This follows a stabbing incident at a labour accommodation in Dubai’s Al Quoz Industrial Area on December 30, 2023.
The altercation began when the accused and the victim, both Indian nationals, were drinking alcohol. An argument broke out after the victim insulted the accused. In a drunken state, the accused then grabbed a knife. He stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest, face, and abdomen.
As a result, the victim suffered severe injuries, including deep stab wounds. Medical reports confirmed that these injuries caused internal bleeding. The victim required immediate surgery. Following the attack, the accused fled to the labour accommodation, causing further chaos.
Authorities were alerted to the incident and quickly responded. Upon arrival, they found the victim bleeding heavily. He was rushed to Rashid Hospital Dubai for urgent care. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers arrested the accused and recovered the knife.
During the trial, the accused denied intent to kill. He claimed alcohol had influenced his actions, and he could not recall all the details. A co-worker testified that the accused had been acting bizarrely. The witness said the two men began arguing shortly before the stabbing.
The court also convicted the accused on a separate charge. He was found guilty of consuming alcohol and disturbing the peace. For this, the court imposed an additional six-month prison sentence and a Dh100,000 fine. Finally, the court ordered his deportation after he completes his sentence.
