Pakistan’s explosive top-order batter, Fakhar Zaman, is gearing up for the DP World ILT20. The tournament runs from January 11 to February 9. He joins the Desert Vipers with great enthusiasm. Despite this new chapter, Fakhar remains committed to representing Pakistan on the international stage.
The Desert Vipers’ Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, had Fakhar as a key target for this year’s tournament. Praising the left-hander, Moody referred to him as “a true match-winner.”
From Fakhar’s perspective, joining the Desert Vipers was an easy decision. He said, “Many Pakistani players, including Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Azam Khan, and Mohammad Amir, have spoken highly of this team. They praise the environment, management, and mindset.”
“So, when I received the offer, I immediately said, ‘Yes, I would love to play for this team.’” Fakhar’s excitement was evident. “I’ve been supporting the Vipers even before becoming a part of the squad. I’m thrilled and very happy to be here,” he added.
The 34-year-old last represented Pakistan during the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024. Speaking on the Vipers Voices podcast, Fakhar Zaman clarified his absence. “After the T20 World Cup, I fell sick and couldn’t maintain fitness, which kept me out of the team,” he explained. “However, I’ve fully recovered now, and you’ll see me in Pakistan’s next international series,” he affirmed.
Fakhar’s return to the national setup could be on the horizon. This is especially true with incumbent opener Saim Ayub recently sidelined. Ayub suffered an injury during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa. However, Fakhar stated his focus remains on the Desert Vipers for the ILT20.
“I wish Saim a speedy recovery and plan to reach out to him,” Fakhar said. “He’s an incredible player. If he continues on this trajectory for the next four to five years, he’ll be among the world’s top three players.”
As Fakhar prepares to make an impact in the ILT20, fans eagerly await his return to both franchise and international cricket.
