American University of Sharjah Board of Trustees approves new PhD programs

The Board of Trustees of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), chaired by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the University and its Board of Trustees, has approved the launch of three new PhD programs and appointed new members to the board.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi stated, “With optimism and pride, we continue to expand the academic horizons of the American University of Sharjah. The introduction of these new PhD programs will empower our students to become leaders in their fields, contributing to global innovation and progress. Welcoming new board members reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering excellence, diversity, and impactful community engagement.”

During the meeting, the board approved the launch of three PhD programs in Philosophy across the following disciplines: Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. These programs aim to meet the growing demand for advanced academic degrees in these fields and equip graduates with the skills needed to address pressing global challenges. The introduction of these programs aligns with the university’s mission to contribute to economic growth and innovation in the region and to produce highly qualified professionals in key sectors.

The board also welcomed two new members: Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and Dr. Christina Lumsney, a veteran entrepreneur with two decades of experience in technology innovation and marketing.
