The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has discussed ways to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with the Kingdom of Belgium, highlighting new opportunities to expand strategic economic partnerships between the UAE and Belgian business communities.
The discussions took place during a meeting held at the Sharjah Chamber’s headquarters, where Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, received Antoine Delcourt, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the UAE, at the conclusion of his diplomatic assignment in the country.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; and Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department at SCCI.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed opportunities to scale economic collaboration in line with the shared interests of the UAE and Belgium, while reaffirming their commitment to deepening commercial and investment ties.
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais praised the Belgian ambassador for his efforts in strengthening bilateral economic relations and thanked him for his contributions during his diplomatic mission in the UAE.
He highlighted the longstanding cooperation between the Belgian Embassy and the Sharjah Chamber, noting the embassy’s support for several joint initiatives and business forums organised by SCCI to strengthen institutional collaboration and commercial partnerships between the UAE and Belgian private sectors.
“We highly value the positive and constructive role played by Ambassador Antoine Delcourt in strengthening ties between the business communities of Sharjah and Belgium,” Al Owais said.
“His continued commitment to supporting joint economic initiatives has directly contributed to creating new and promising opportunities for collaboration between private sector institutions in both markets.”
He added that the strong foundations built over recent years would help further expand economic and investment cooperation between Sharjah and Belgium, opening wider opportunities for sustainable growth and long-term business partnerships.
Al Owais also reaffirmed SCCI’s commitment to expanding its global partnership network and strengthening cooperation with strategic economic partners and high-potential international markets.
He noted that these efforts support Sharjah’s ambition to enhance the competitiveness of its business environment and reinforce the emirate’s position as a leading global destination for investment and business.
The Belgian delegation thanked the Sharjah Chamber for its close collaboration and continuous support throughout the ambassador’s tenure in the UAE.
Officials from the Belgian side said economic and trade relations between Belgium and Sharjah have witnessed steady growth and notable progress, driven by constructive cooperation and a shared strategic vision between institutions on both sides.
The delegation also praised SCCI’s role in fostering international partnerships, supporting businesses, and organising specialised business forums and economic events that strengthen bilateral commercial ties and create an attractive environment for investment and long-term growth.
The meeting highlighted the strength of the longstanding economic partnership between Sharjah and Belgium, supported by institutional cooperation and strategic initiatives focused on innovation, clean technology, and economic empowerment.
Discussions also underscored SCCI’s efforts to expand cooperation in high value-added industries and strengthen business links between Sharjah and European private sector institutions, supporting the emirate’s goal of attracting European investment, expertise, and innovation-driven partnerships.
The meeting also reviewed the success of the second Sharjah-Europe Businesswomen Forum, hosted in Brussels in 2024 at the historic Egmont Palace, which brought together Emirati and European women entrepreneurs.
The forum served as a platform to strengthen business networking, identify investment opportunities, and promote knowledge exchange among women-led enterprises.
It also led to the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SCCI and the European Women’s Association (EWA) to support women-led businesses and to encourage bilateral investment and joint ventures.
Another MoU was signed with the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (ABLCC) to create direct channels of engagement between companies in Sharjah and European markets.
