Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved a budget of Dh747,000 for the 19th Theatre Season scheduled to begin in October 2026, reaffirming the emirate’s continued commitment to cultural development and sustainable artistic initiatives.

According to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the funding reflects Sharjah’s long-standing support for theatre and performing arts in the UAE, with officials describing the initiative as part of a broader vision to strengthen cultural identity and creative expression.

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais said theatre practitioners in Sharjah continue to receive both moral and financial support under the guidance of the Sharjah Ruler. He noted that the sustained backing has helped create continuity in the UAE’s theatre movement while encouraging artists and theatre troupes to improve script selection, acting standards, and technical production quality.

Al Owais added that Emirati theatre groups have increasingly gained recognition at regional and international festivals, helping elevate the UAE’s cultural standing globally.

Meanwhile, Ismail Abdullah praised the Sharjah Ruler’s ongoing patronage of the arts, saying the support enables theatre organizations to produce high-quality performances that remain closely connected with audiences and community life.

The 19th Theatre Season will showcase four productions selected from the latest edition of Sharjah Theatre Days held in 2026.

The selected plays include “Heir Qarmosha” by Sharjah National Theatre, “Title to Be Decided” by the Sharjah Folk Arts Association, “Half of Layla” by Khorfakkan Theatre for Arts, and “Depths of the Soul” by the Kalba Association for Folk Arts and Theatre.
