Forget Dieting — New Jab Claims To Beat Ozempic And Mounjaro For Weight Loss

New weight loss jab better than Ozempic and Mounjaro is being tested on humans for the first time. The new treatment aims to help people lose weight without cutting back on food.

The injection, developed by Italian firm Resalis Therapeutics, is called RES-010. Unlike existing jabs, it does not just reduce appetite. Instead, it works by reprogramming how the body stores and burns fat. Experts believe this could help people avoid regaining weight once treatment stops.

Early tests in animals showed promising results. Mice given the jab lost 12 per cent more weight than those without it, even though they ate the same food. The fat also stayed off after the treatment ended. The injection is given once a week, similar to Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Dr Riccardo Panella, the creator of the drug, explained that it helps convert white fat, which stores energy, into brown fat, which burns energy. This could give it an advantage over other weight loss jabs that mainly act by suppressing hunger.

Currently, more than 1.5 million people in the UK are using GLP-1 jabs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro. These medicines are effective but often lead to side effects, muscle loss, or bone weakness. Many patients also regain the weight when they stop treatment.

The new jab is still in early phase human trials, with around 80 participants. Results are expected early next year. If successful, it could take up to a decade before patients can access it.

Secondary experts remain cautious, noting that claims of reprogramming metabolism need further proof. Still, this new jab offers hope in the fight against obesity.
