One of Sharjah’s most globally connected universities has opened its doors for the new academic year, welcoming students from over 140 nationalities to a campus that has become one of the UAE’s most genuinely multicultural centres of learning.
Al Qasimia University began the 2026-2027 academic year with university field teams stationed at UAE airports to ensure students arriving from across the world experienced a smooth and supported transition from arrival to campus life. Teams facilitated transfers from airports to university accommodation, completed housing arrangements, introduced students to campus facilities and services, and provided essential supplies to help them begin their academic journey in a safe and stable environment.
A Chancellor’s Vision — AI, Research and Global Cooperation
Prof. Dr Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of Al Qasimia University, framed the new academic year within the university’s broader strategic ambitions and the continued support of its founder.
“The start of the new academic year reflects the university’s continued academic journey under the ongoing support of its founder, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which has contributed to expanding its global presence,” he said.
The Chancellor highlighted that the presence of students from more than 140 nationalities creates a multicultural community that promotes moderation, tolerance and coexistence, enabling students to exchange knowledge and experiences in an environment that respects cultural and civilisational diversity.
On strategic priorities for the year ahead, Al Khalaf said the university is focusing on four core areas: enhancing the quality of educational programmes, advancing research and innovation, strengthening international cooperation, and most significantly, integrating artificial intelligence applications into education and scientific research.
AI Integration — The Year’s Defining Priority
The emphasis on artificial intelligence integration is the most forward-looking element of Al Qasimia University’s 2026-2027 strategy and reflects the broader direction that leading UAE academic institutions are taking in response to the transformative impact of AI on education, research, and professional life.
In meetings with current and newly appointed faculty members ahead of the academic year, Chancellor Al Khalaf stressed the importance of continuing and deepening the initiative to integrate AI technologies into teaching and student assessment processes. He directed faculty to enhance research output, strengthen international cooperation, and ensure that research is directed toward community issues and real-world needs rather than purely academic exercises.
The integration of AI into a university serving students from 140 nationalities also carries particular significance for the kind of cross-cultural, multilingual learning environment that Al Qasimia University has built. AI tools that support diverse language backgrounds, varied academic preparation levels, and different cultural approaches to learning can make a genuinely diverse classroom more effective for every student in it.
What This Means for Sharjah
Al Qasimia University’s global student body is a direct reflection of Sharjah’s identity as one of the UAE’s most culturally and educationally ambitious emirates. Under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Sharjah has consistently positioned itself as the UAE’s cultural and educational capital, with Al Qasimia University serving as one of the most visible expressions of that commitment.
A university campus where 140 nationalities study, learn, and live together is not simply an academic institution. It is a working model of the tolerance, coexistence, and knowledge exchange that Sharjah’s leadership has championed as foundational values for the emirate and for the broader UAE.
SharjahNews.ae congratulates Al Qasimia University, its Chancellor, faculty, and the students from 140 nations beginning their academic journey in Sharjah this year.
