Sharjah: The Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) has opened applications for the 13th Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA) 2026, inviting government entities, international organizations, private institutions, and communication professionals worldwide to showcase innovative initiatives that improve lives and strengthen communities through effective communication.

Applications are open until August 31, 2026, and participants can submit entries through the award’s official website. The awards recognize outstanding communication strategies that support sustainable development, enhance public engagement, and reinforce communication as a key partner in policymaking and institutional excellence.

The annual awards have evolved into one of the region’s most recognized platforms for celebrating innovation in government communication while encouraging collaboration among institutions worldwide.

Spotlight on innovation and public impact

A major category this year is the Best Innovation in Integrated Communications, which honors government agencies, international organizations, and public or semi-government entities that have developed integrated communication systems aligned with strategic objectives.

The category recognizes institutions that successfully combine governance, innovation, modern technologies, and data-driven decision-making to improve communication with citizens and stakeholders. It also rewards initiatives that enhance transparency, strengthen public trust, and deliver a better overall public experience.

Recognising communication that improves quality of life

Another key category, the Outstanding Communication Award for a Higher Quality of Life, celebrates Sharjah government entities that use strategic communication to support initiatives and services that directly benefit residents.

Projects related to sustainability, healthcare, education, environmental protection, food security and community services are among those eligible. The award also highlights campaigns that strengthen relationships between government institutions and the public while encouraging greater civic participation and confidence in public services.

Empowering communities through creative communication

The Best Innovative Communication Initiative for Community Empowerment category recognizes government and private-sector organizations that have designed creative communication campaigns to empower communities and promote social responsibility.

Eligible initiatives include projects addressing humanitarian and social challenges, encouraging volunteerism, building strategic partnerships and introducing innovative solutions that foster cooperation, inclusion and stronger community engagement.

The category reflects Sharjah’s continued focus on communication as a catalyst for positive social change and long-term community development.

Growing international reputation

This year’s Sharjah Government Communication Award features 23 categories across five major sectors, including awards for government entities and international organizations, individual achievements, smart communication innovators, and special jury and partner awards.

The award’s growing international profile was evident in the previous edition, which attracted more than 2,600 submissions from around the world. More than 600 entries from 37 countries advanced to the first round of judging, while 170 finalists reached the final evaluation stage.

The growing global participation reinforces Sharjah’s position as a leading international hub for government communication excellence, providing a platform for institutions to exchange ideas, share best practices, and showcase communication strategies that deliver measurable social impact.
