A new hydrogen-powered drone record has been set in China with the successful long-distance flight of the Tianmushan-1. This advanced drone flew 188.605 km, earning a Guinness World Record. It completed the journey in more than four hours in Hangzhou. The achievement was confirmed at the 7th Zhejiang International Intelligent Transportation Industry Expo. The hydrogen-powered drone record highlights China’s growing strength in clean-energy aviation technology.
Tianmushan-1 was developed by Beihang University. The university confirmed that the flight data fully met Guinness World Records standards. The drone’s performance remained stable throughout the mission. Its propulsion system showed high reliability. The flight was monitored in real time. It was also officially verified for accuracy and safety.
The drone was introduced as a major low-altitude innovation by the Tianmushan Laboratory. It made its first flight in August 2024 and entered production in April 2025. The drone has a 1,600 mm wheelbase and weighs only 19 kg without payload. It can carry up to 6 kg. It can also fly for 240 minutes without load. And it works in extreme temperatures from minus 40°C to 50°C.
Tianmushan-1 supports 100-km BVLOS autonomous flights, making it suitable for a range of operations. These include ecological patrols, pipeline inspections, new-energy plant monitoring, island supply missions, traffic management, and emergency response tasks. This achievement strengthens China’s position in hydrogen-powered aviation and long-endurance drone technology.
