New rules in Dubai: 30-day vehicle impoundment for using mobile phones and negligence

Dubai: Dubai Police have issued new rules regarding traffic violations, with the duration of vehicle impoundment determined by the nature of the offense.

The purpose of these regulations is to ensure effective enforcement of traffic laws, reduce accidents, and provide a safer environment on the roads.

After reviewing Decree No. 29 of 2015 and its amendments, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police has announced the following regulations:

Vehicle Impoundment Details

1. 30 days of impoundment for sudden deviation that endangers lives, property, or road safety.
2. 30 days of impoundment for failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
3. 14 days of impoundment for entering the road without ensuring it is clear.
4. 30 days of impoundment for using a mobile phone or other devices, resulting in driver distraction.
5. 14 days of impoundment for reversing in a way that endangers lives, property, or traffic safety.
6. 14 days of impoundment for violating lane discipline.
7. 14 days of impoundment for stopping in the middle of the road without justification.
8. 14 days of impoundment for dangerous overtaking.
9. 14 days of impoundment for lacking the required safety equipment in the vehicle.
10. 30 days of impoundmentfor heavy vehicles violating lane discipline rules.
11. 14 days of impoundment for parking on the hard shoulder without an emergency or using it to overtake.
12. 14 days of impoundment for driving without a license plate or with only one plate.
13. 14 days of impoundment for obstructing traffic flow through reckless driving.
14. 14 days of impoundment for changing the vehicle’s color without permission.
