UAE announces new cabinet appointments

The UAE government announced significant changes to its cabinet on Sunday, appointing Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.

This decision came after consultations between President Sheikh Mohamed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, as shared by Sheikh Mohammed on social media platform X.

In another key appointment, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been named Deputy Prime Minister while continuing his role as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The restructuring also includes the formation of the Council for Education, Human Resources, and Community Development, led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed with Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan serving as Vice-President.

This new council will encompass the Ministry of Community Development, Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Federal Universities, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Additionally, the Emirates Foundation for School Education and the Federal Agency for Early Education will merge with the Ministry of Education. Sarah Al Amiri has been appointed as the new Minister of Education.

Abdul Rahman Al-Awar, currently the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, will take on additional responsibilities as the acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research
