Bangladesh’s bowlers put on an impressive performance on the fifth day to lead their team to victory over Pakistan in the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Bangladeshi batsmen Zakir Hasan (15) and Shadman Islam (9) quickly achieved the 30-run goal set by the Shan Masood-led team, scoring only 6.3 overs after bowling out the hosts for 146 in the second innings.
Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team made history today by securing their first-ever victory over Pakistan in Test cricket, with a win.
In their second inning today at 23-1, Pakistani batters faced difficulties against the opposing team as Shan Masood (14), Babar Azam (22), Saud Shakeel (0), Abdullah Shafique (37), and Salman Ali Agha (0) were dismissed swiftly.
Even though he showed bravery, Mohammad Rizwan (51) was eliminated by Mehidy Hasan after being bowled out.
Nasheem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Ali struggled against the Bangladeshi bowlers, resulting in the national team being all out for 146.
On day four, the guests excelled, leading by 117 runs with a score of 565 in reply to Pakistan’s 448/6, thanks to Mushfiqur Rahim’s impressive 191-run performance from 341 balls.
When the day began, the visitors had scored 316-5 in 92 overs with Rahim (55 runs from 122 balls) and Litton Das (52 runs from 58 balls) batting.
Not long after the game continued, Shah got rid of Das thanks to Rizwan catching the ball.
However, Rahim stayed resilient and ultimately reached an outstanding century, becoming the third player to score one hundred runs in the ongoing Test match.
Rahim and Hasan formed an impressive partnership to put Pakistan at a disadvantage. Rahim was approaching his fourth double-century but missed it by nine runs when Ali dismissed him.
Pakistan completed Bangladesh’s innings following Rahim’s exit. Afridi took out Mahmud and Mehidy, while Shah dismissed Islam who scored 22 runs from 14 balls.
The ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is a crucial part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, with both teams determined to excel and climb higher on the WTC points standings.
Both teams have squared off in 13 matches across six Test series, with Pakistan coming out victorious in 12 of them, while one match ended in a draw.
