Gautam Gambhir appointed as head coach of Indian cricket team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of former Test cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.

This important decision will see Gambhir leading the team for the next three and a half years.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made the announcement, expressing his confidence in Gambhir’s capabilities. “We welcome Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian team. I am confident that he is the ideal person for this role given his vast experience in cricket,” Shah stated.

Shah further highlighted that Gambhir’s vision for the Indian team is clear and that the board will fully support him in his new journey.

In response to his appointment, Gautam Gambhir expressed his pride and commitment to the role. “India is my identity, and serving my country has been the greatest honor of my life. My aim has always been to make every Indian proud,” Gambhir said. He emphasized that the players of the Indian team carry the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and pledged to do everything in his power to fulfill those dreams.

Gambhir’s coaching credentials include leading Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title, showcasing his ability to guide teams to success. He replaces former coach Rahul Dravid, under whose leadership India won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

This appointment marks a new chapter for Indian cricket, with fans and experts alike eager to see how Gambhir will shape the future of the team.
