Afghan cricketer Ihsanullah banned for 5 years for match-fixing

In an important development, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has banned Ihsanullah Jannat from playing cricket for five years.

The decision comes after allegations of match-fixing against the international cricketer were substantiated.

According to an official statement by the ACB, Ihsanullah Jannat was found guilty of breaching the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code during the second season of the Kabul Premier League this year. The specific violation pertains to Article 2.1.1 of the ICC code, which prohibits any form of match-fixing.

Ihsanullah Jannat, who is the younger brother of former Afghanistan cricket captain Nowroz Mangal, admitted to the charges and acknowledged his involvement in inappropriate activities. Consequently, the ACB imposed a five-year ban on him.

The 26-year-old cricketer has represented Afghanistan in three Test matches and 16 One Day Internationals (ODIs). His last appearance for the national team was in a T20 International against Zimbabwe in 2022.
