The authorities in Dubai have introduced a pilot project called “Our Flexible Summer” which aims to reduce working hours for selected public offices during the summer months.
This initiative, announced by the Dubai Government’s Human Resources Department (DGHR), will also end operations on Friday.
From August 12 to September 30, 15 public offices will reduce their working hours to 7 hours a day. Generally, civil servants in Dubai enjoy a two and a half day week, half day on Friday and days off on Saturday and Sunday. With the new measure, workers will have a long weekend for seven weeks.
Although the DGHR did not reveal the specific entities involved, the project aims to increase workplace flexibility, improve work-life balance and ensure safety in the heat of summer. The Ministry conducted a study to assess the preparedness of the authorities to reduce working hours. The results indicate strong support for this proposal, showing its ability to improve the lives of workers and reduce the effort in public offices.
The DGHR will monitor the impact of this program on employee productivity and performance. Previous studies in the UAE and internationally show that shorter working hours lead to higher productivity. For example, a three-day week in Sharjah resulted in an 88 percent increase in productivity and a 90 percent increase in job satisfaction among employees, and a 94 percent increase in job satisfaction among employees. customer service.
DGHR plans to review feedback from the project and produce a final report with results, recommendations and adaptation for various government agencies.
