Pakistan stands firm on hosting Champions Trophy 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is resolute in its stance to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, despite the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) uncertainty over the event’s logistics, particularly concerning India’s participation.

Scheduled from February 19 to March 9 next year, the Champions Trophy has sparked discussions about a potential hybrid model, similar to the Asia Cup, to ensure smooth execution.

This model could involve hosting some matches in neutral venues if necessary. However, the ICC remains doubtful about whether the Indian government will permit the Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan.

Sources indicate that the ICC is surprised by the PCB’s lack of a backup plan for the event. There have been no discussions about alternative locations such as the UAE or Sri Lanka, raising concerns as the event date approaches.

Despite these issues, PCB officials maintain their position that the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan. They are confident that the ICC will facilitate India’s participation, asserting that if other teams are ready to travel to Pakistan, there should be no problem with India’s involvement.

As the event draws nearer, the situation remains fluid, with the potential for a crisis if India’s participation cannot be confirmed or if alternative arrangements need to be made.
