UAE cricket community mourns beloved player Mandeep Singh

The UAE cricket community is in mourning after the sudden death of Mandeep Singh, a cherished teammate and skilled all-rounder. Tributes have poured in for Mandeep, who was known for his dedication, sportsmanship, and friendly personality.

Mandeep, originally from Mumbai, had lived in the UAE for 15 years. He tragically collapsed on Thursday night (June 20) while traveling home with his teammates after a cricket match in Sharjah.

The incident unfolded during a T22 match between Mandeep’s team, the Dubai Super Kings (DSK), and the Titans. While batting in the second innings, Mandeep started feeling unwell and informed his captain. He opted to retire from the game and rest. Concerned teammates suspected heat exhaustion and tried to cool him down with fluids and rest. Though he initially felt better, he decided not to return to the field.

The tragedy struck on their way back home. Barely 10 kilometers from the stadium, Mandeep again complained of discomfort and shortness of breath. His condition rapidly worsened, and he collapsed inside the car. His teammates immediately took action, performing CPR and calling for an ambulance. Despite their efforts and the medical team’s intervention at Al Daid Hospital, Mandeep could not be revived.

The cause of death remains under investigation by the forensic department, with heat exhaustion being a suspected factor. Mandeep is survived by his wife, two sons, and a large circle of grieving friends and colleagues.

Mandeep’s impact extended beyond the cricket pitch. He was a valued employee at Flydubai for over a decade, where colleagues expressed their deepest condolences. Tributes also poured in from fellow cricketers who described him as a “fantastic all-rounder,” a “gem of a person,” and a true sportsman who would be deeply missed.

Mandeep’s passing has cast a shadow over the UAE’s cricket community. Organizers like Naveed Ahmed, Chairman of Superfix Sports, used this event to highlight the importance of prioritizing health and well-being in sports. He urged players to stay hydrated, take breaks, and listen to their bodies.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and safety in sports. Mandeep Singh’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his passion for cricket will continue to inspire others.
