UAE law explained: What you need to know about online incitement

The UAE Public Prosecution (PP) is using social media to raise awareness about the legal consequences of inciting people to disobey the law.

In a recent post, the PP explained that Article 27 of the Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes outlines the penalties for such actions.

Anyone who uses a computer network or social media to encourage others to break the law could face jail time and a hefty fine. The fine could range from AED 100,000 to AED 500,000 (approximately USD $27,225 to $136,125).

The PP’s social media campaign is part of their ongoing effort to promote legal awareness among UAE residents. They want to ensure everyone understands the laws of the country and the potential consequences of breaking them.

It’s important to be mindful of what you post online in the UAE. If you’re unsure whether something you’re about to share could be considered encouragement to break the law, it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid posting it.
