The UAE is set for a major hiring surge over the next five years, with employers expected to require more than 1 million additional workers by 2030, driven by rapid economic expansion, digital transformation, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
According to recent workforce forecasts, the UAE’s labour market is projected to grow by 12.1% by 2030, significantly outpacing major economies such as the United States (2.1%) and India (10.6%). The expansion is being led by manufacturing, education, retail, technology, and energy, creating fresh opportunities for jobseekers across skill levels.
Tech Jobs Lead the Growth
Technology roles are expected to grow at a much faster pace than the overall workforce. The UAE will need an additional 91,000 technology professionals, adding to the existing base of 169,000 tech workers. Demand is strongest for search marketing strategists, computer programmers, systems analysts, cybersecurity experts, and AI specialists.
The surge aligns with the UAE’s aggressive push toward artificial intelligence. A recent Coursera report shows a 344% rise in Generative AI enrolments in the UAE, the highest in the Arab world, positioning the country as a regional leader in AI talent development.
AI Is Reshaping Hiring, Not Replacing It
While automation is reducing some entry-level roles such as call-centre agents, experts say AI is creating more jobs than it eliminates. Finance, healthcare, energy, and utilities are among the fastest-growing sectors, with energy and utilities forecast to expand by 33%, followed by education (31%) and manufacturing (18%).
“AI augmentation will be central to the next wave of economic growth,” said William O’Neill, regional executive at ServiceNow. “The future of work depends on collaboration between people and AI, and that future is hiring now.”
Skills That Pay a Premium
Recruiters say hiring is increasingly focused on professionals with certifications and practical expertise in AI, cybersecurity, sustainability, engineering, fintech, and data analytics. Around 60–65% of hiring now relies on digital tools, including AI-driven screening and interviews, making skill relevance more important than job titles.
Hybrid roles that combine technical knowledge with leadership, such as project managers, data centre managers, and digitally fluent civil engineers, are among the most sought after.
Advice for Jobseekers
Recruiters stress that while technology plays a role in recruitment, human qualities still matter. Networking, discipline, and honesty remain critical differentiators.
“Employers can spot generic, AI-generated CVs instantly,” recruiters warn, advising candidates not to rely solely on automated applications or demand flexibility too early in the hiring process. Consistency, humility, and transparency about experience and salary expectations continue to carry weight.
Outlook for 2026 and Beyond
Jobseekers entering the UAE market in 2026 are expected to see strong demand led by construction, technology, and energy, fuelled by infrastructure development, renewable energy investments, and ongoing digital transformation.
As the UAE races to fill skill gaps and future-proof its workforce, experts agree on one thing: those who upskill early and adapt to AI-driven workplaces will have a clear advantage in one of the world’s fastest-growing job markets.
