Sharjah Theatre Days Committee has started official preparations for the 35th edition of Sharjah Theatre Days. The cultural event will be held from March 24 to March 31 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The festival is one of the most important theatre events in the UAE.
As part of the planning process, the Sharjah Theatre Days Committee held its second preparatory meeting at the Cultural Palace on Monday, December 22. The meeting was chaired by Ahmed Bourhima, Director of the Theatre Department at the Department of Culture and Director of Sharjah Theatre Days. Several committee members attended the meeting to review progress and future plans.
During the meeting, members discussed applications submitted by theatre groups wishing to participate. The committee also set the dates for the viewing and selection process. The selection committee will work from February 27 to March 7. Theatre groups can submit their applications until Wednesday, January 25.
Sharjah Theatre Days was launched in 1984. It aims to support Emirati theatre and encourage creative excellence. Each year, theatre groups compete for awards that recognise outstanding performances, direction, and production. The festival also includes cultural activities, workshops, and discussions.
Many local and Arab artists take part in the event. These activities help promote theatre culture in Sharjah and the wider region. The Department of Culture continues to play a key role in supporting artistic growth.
The 35th edition is expected to attract strong participation. It will further strengthen Sharjah’s position as a leading centre for arts and culture in the Arab world.
